I bought the Galaxy XR primarily for PCVR gaming, and I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised. I had watched a few YouTube review videos focused specifically on VR gaming, and the common theme was that the device was not optimized for it. As of May 2026, I’m happy to report that not only is it good, it has exceeded my expectations. I’m using Virtual Desktop, which now supports foveated streaming, and I’m getting a sustained 72–90 FPS in some of the most graphically demanding games, including VR modes for Resident Evil 2, 3, 7, and Requiem, all over Wi-Fi 7. The OLED screens are absolutely the standout feature. The dynamic range is outstanding. They produce vivid colors, deep blacks, and the brightness is more than sufficient. I have the brightness set to 70%. Another thing that surprised me was how comfortable the headset is. I’ve worn it for two hours straight with zero discomfort or pressure on my face. I did replace the forehead pad with a third-party option from Tyco Tech. It reduces the distance between your eyes and the displays, which widens the FOV. An added benefit is that it makes the device feel lighter and improves comfort even further. I can confidently say that the Galaxy XR is more comfortable than the Quest 3. Battery life is decent as well. I’m getting about two hours of heavy use. My only two gripes are: 1. The 3D movies I bought (I’ve only purchased two so far) are letterboxed with black bars at the top and bottom. This takes away from the immersion and somewhat defeats the purpose of virtual screens that should adapt to the content. I’m guessing the black bars are baked into the source files. 2. I wish more streaming apps had native Android XR support. Right now, the only two with native support are YouTube and Netflix. For example, the HBO Max app is just the phone/tablet version with no 4K streaming support.

I have been a loyal Samsung customer for 15 years, so I expected a much better experience, especially from a next-generation product. Instead, I was left disappointed, frustrated, and feeling like the product did not live up to the quality and reliability I normally associate with Samsung. The responses provided to other disappointed customers feel more like a product description than a real acknowledgment of the issues we've all had. We do not need more information about what the Galaxy XR is supposed to do. We need Samsung to understand that, in our experience, it did not perform as advertised. As a long-time customer, I expected more from Samsung. I hope this feedback is taken seriously because this product has made me question the level of quality I have trusted for many years.

First of all, I'd like to start with saying that this XR headset is simply the best value on the high-end market right now for having 4K Micro-oled displays, built-in face and eye tracking, and standalone processing all in one neat little package. So if you're looking for any of these features I listed above, this may be the headset for you (read further). As for usage, there isn't much to do within the headset besides "productivity", media consumption, or PCVR gaming. I find myself primarily using this headset to watch movies/shows via Jellyfin/Youtube and play PCVR games via Virtual Desktop. Basically an Android tablet that you can wear on your face but integrated with your reality. Clarity/Visuals: Simply put this headset has the BEST visuals out of any headset I've tried, its left me in absolute awe. The "screen door" effect is completely gone. Colors are vibrant and accurate as you'd expect from a micro-oled display. The field of view isn't that high for me by default, but after installing a 3rd party comfort kit (more on that below) with a thinner forehead pad I get much better edge-to-edge clarity and fov. tldr; The closer your eyes can get to the lenses (comfortably) the better visuals you'll get. Comfort issues: This headset is not very comfortable by default. I get a lot of forehead pressure after 30 minutes of using the device. It would've been nice if the head strap was removable, as it would allow for a plethora of effortless comfort solutions. The solution was to order a 3rd party comfort kit mod (Globular Cluster) which made the headset much more bearable to wear for long periods of time. The Battery/Battery Life: The battery lasts around 2 hours from my usage. I appreciate the battery being separate from the headset, as it allows for easy replacements in the future and allows for an overall lighter headset. It connects to the headset via a proprietary connector to a USB C cable. However, the battery is using some kind of special protocol to communicate with the headset, meaning you cannot connect the headset directly to a different power bank. The solution is to charge the headset battery bank with a second battery bank while in use. This is not ideal for my uses as I'd prefer to use a larger battery directly in the first place so I don't have to chain two batteries together. Headset/Controller tracking: The headset can track in the dark, though it is not ideal. My headset sometimes loses tracking in my room, adding additional contrasting objects helped with this issue though, so if you have blank walls consider hanging paintings or posters to help with tracking. The headset will often "drift" spatially, meaning after playing immersive PCVR games for a while, the floor level will either be lower or higher than it actually is in reality. As what I've heard about the controllers, they do not have tracking prediction, meaning when the cameras lose track of the controllers they will immediately freeze in place. I cannot personally attest to this as I do not have my controllers yet, but I would like to see controller tracking improved. Overall, the tracking is serviceable for the most part, it just needs further updates. Is this headset for hardcore PCVR users: In a nutshell, the visuals are SUPERB but the software COULD be better. There is currently an issue when streaming PCVR via Virtual Desktop where the headset will throttle its displays to 72Hz randomly when streaming at 90Hz. This issue can be mitigated by ensuring adequate lighting in your room or reducing streaming bitrate, but I haven't had much luck. This isn't an issue if you don't mind playing at 72Hz, but if you're gonna be spending almost 2 GRAND on a headset to not use it to its fullest then what's the point? I would also recommend disabling Location services entirely in settings for the smoothest PCVR streaming experience, as enabling Location services causes stutters while streaming in PCVR. Overall, If Samsung/Google manages to fix headset/controller tracking and improve streaming stability, then I would absolutely recommend purchasing this headset for PCVR usage. Is this headset for Media Consumers: If you just want to watch media with the absolute BEST visuals then purchase this headset. I am unsure how other streaming apps work with this headset as I only use my local library of movies and shows, but from watching my own media I can say it's a fantastic experience. 3D movies also look great. It's basically like being able to have a high resolution OLED TV on demand anywhere. Great for flight entertainment especially. A plea to SAMSUNG: Please continue to support this device with additional fixes and updates, the hardware is very solid but there are software issues I (and many others) would like to see fixed that are really holding this device back: fix headset throttling displays to 72Hz when streaming PCVR content, fix headset tracking loss/tracking drift, improve controller tracking and prediction, improve network stability for PCVR streaming. This XR headset is my dream for what XR hardware SHOULD be: something you can take with you on the go for standalone media/gaming AND used for high-end PCVR gaming via streaming at home. Overall, not regretting my purchase, I enjoy using this headset and am looking forward to the future of the Android XR platform. I hope all the issues I mentioned get fixed relatively soon.

I think this is a good first start for Samsung. I enjoyed my time with it except for the headaches I'd get using it. For most people that won't be a problem, but my sad brain is overly EMF sensitive. I had the same problem with the AVP, so it's not unique to Samsung. Oddly enough, the Quest 3 does not bother me or I wouldn't have tried this one. I was hoping for a better version of the Quest and this absolutely is that, except for my aforementioned brain sensitivities. I much prefer the Android XR operating system and the XR's hand tracking, although the tracking needs to improve somewhat to match the AVP. I had trouble grabbing items lower on the screen, but in the middle or top, it was fine. I would think this could be improved with future updates. YouTube videos look and sound great on it and the AVP cannot compete in that department. I thought the pass through video looked better than both the Quest and AVP, but still not what anyone would consider perfect. I bought the controllers but didn't open them because I knew I couldn't keep it, so I can't compare those to the Quest. The retail price on those is a bit outlandish, but Samsung was offering a deal on them, so that's what finally got me to purchase the device. All the other early adopter software freebies would've been awesome if I could've kept it. I know the cost is relatively high compared to the Quest, but I think the total bundle is a decent value, especially compared to the AVP. The AVP has a better processor, but I never felt the XR was sluggish in any way. I'd read other reviews that mentioned glare and I wondered how that could be. I still don't understand it and It's not terrible, but I did occasionally notice it. Display quality overall is top notch and on par with the AVP. Something I've not seen anybody review regarding this device is the video/audio quality of videos taken WITH it. Yes, you can record spatial videos with it. And they look/sound pretty darn cool. The resolution is 1920x1920. They look/sound much better viewing on the headset with added depth you can't get from a 2D monitor. I'll try to post one I did, so you can hear the sound quality. I think it's pretty awesome and wish I could've kept it just for that purpose.

Best lenses and displays. On par with Pimax Crystal Super OLED. But useless for me because it doesn't work well with PCVR. You must make it work with Steam VR 2.0, you must make the Gemini stoppable from background and you should IMMEDIATELY upgrade it's CPU to XR3, just like Valve did. Then this will win over the Play For Dream, because that has bad FOV. Then you will sell 5000 units to PCVR gamers, because that should be your main target.

I really wanted to love and get frequent use of this product but I have not found the niche in my work or personal life were this device fits in. It's well made, comfortable for wear and a great user experience in the Android XR UI BUT...first, the batter life is terrible! Second, the fit is hard to maintain and how it fits affects the quality of what you are viewing. It hasn't been uncommon to get a pop up to adjust the headset about every 30 minutes. It's very disappointing that the travel case is not available as it doesn't travel well, even within our house, without putting it back in the box. Since I am not a gamer, I really don't see the value of the device. Yes, it's cool to review web pages and read emails without a screen in front of you but typing is not an easy task. Navigation is good but not great. It would be really nice to just be able to swipe and go back. Pinching is a pain over time. If you have a pet trying to sit on your lap then reading your pinches becomes an act of intentional choreography. As I said, I really wanted to find a good use and purpose for this device but it is going back.

Hello CB1965, We appreciate your detailed feedback on your XR experience. The hardware is designed for comfort and immersive visuals, and your notes on battery life, fit adjustments, travel case usefulness, and gesture flow are exactly the kinds of details we consider as we improve extended reality for everyday use. Truly deserves all the praise and love. Everything about this headset is well built, without compromising on a lighter design. The 4k displays make a huge difference and is insanely noticeable if you have used other headsets. I have used the Index, Quest pro, quest 2, odyssey.... great addition!

I love this headset. It delivers on quality and serves a lot of purposes that I was looking for this product to do. The screens are of a high quality, makes viewing any content you plan on viewing look like its displayed in nearly 4k or equal to. The materials appear to be of a high quality. The surfaces have a esthetic that looks good to the eye and feel good to the hand. Now for the bad. It only has 256gb of storage as an option. For anyone who wants to have a substantial library of games or store movies for a long trip on a plane, on a bus, or in a car. This device doesn't provide a large enough room. The next issue is the headstrap. it would have made more sense for them to have made the headset little more modular for people that are not the average face shape. The pressure on the forehead is not that comfortable. My advice for being able to use it long term(i.e. 1-2hrs) keep your forehead muscles as relaxed as possible. buying a top strap might be a fix. Just set the dial to just enough to make contact with forehead and back of your head, and have the rest of the support from a top strap. The last and most important aspect to those that want this headset to be very competitive. Make the wireless connectivity a little more optimized. Work along side with Steam to get Steam link 2.0 to support this headset. The latency has been lack luster. When compared to the Play for Dream, it just doesn't compete. It's a software issue that can be resolved. Once I see more support in the future for Hardware and software, I will return to change my review based on the progress or lack there of. Thank you Samsung for getting the ball rolling at least.

I'll compare this based on experience with Quest 3 and Vision Pro. 🔴I like it! Going to keep it with the knowledge that the software will improve. I think the hardware is pretty much there with some exceptions. 🔴Samsung straight up lied, Gemini is not at the core of this, it can't open apps, close apps, call people, text people, it doesn't even know anything about the device; the Only thing Gemini can currently do is google search and organize your windows. I'm sure it is at the core they just haven't opened it up to doing useful things yet like actually doing real agent like tasks.🔴It came with a nice lens cover so you don't really need a full case, super nice for bag travel. 🔴 Price is great for the value. More expensive than Quest 3, Less expensive than AVP, but with similar specs and feel to AVP🔴Build quality is better than quest, but not as good as Vision Pro. 🔴Battery life is great, can't complain, and it has usb C for charging while in use! 🔴Weight and balance, pretty light, much lighter than AVP and weight is resting on head instead of nose and brow; would prefer if there were a comfortable middle strap too as it gets uncomfortable after about 2 hours of wear. 🔴Eye tracking is not as good as AVP, but still works. 🔴 Resolution seems about the same as AVP and wayyy better than Quest 3 as you would expect. 🔴Hand tracking is not as good as AVP, it seems to not detect a simple pinch so i have to exaggerate it. 🔴Software is a bit buggy and not fun to use, I suspect this will get better but not that good at the moment. 🔴Controllers are great, similar to Quest 3's controllers. 🔴PC link was a lie? Or perhaps it only connects to samsung PC's? So I'm using Virtual Desktop, works great btw! 🔴 Field of view is terrible! 109 degrees I think. This is ridiculous. Yes, industry standard is 100 deg or whatever, which is crazy. We need a way to have perhaps a lower res area for FULL field of view while main field of view is HD like this. 🔴 Environments are kind of a joke. Super poor quality images and scenes for what the device should be able to handle with its hardware. 🔴 Storage sucks, why is it only 250 GB with no way to externally upgrade? 🔴 Cameras and pass through are really good color but very blury, need at least twice as good of camera res to feel more life like, I get it though, had to budget and cut some corners to beat the AVP price which I'm grateful for.🔴🔴🔴 TLDR: Better than quest 3, not as good as AVP. Consider getting a used AVP for the same price. However, it does connect well with all android / google / pc things, which is a big plus, so i do not regret the purchase. Just be aware it isn't quite as good as AVP due to the many bugs and poor eye and hand tracking.

Very uncomfortable as there is no top head strap as other devices have. No up down rotation on the front of the headset as on the Meta quest 3. Straps not removable, so aftermarket straps won't be available. Field of view looks less than Quest 3. Passthrough is excellent, and so is the resolution, colors and blacKs, some glare and outside even with emersive blinds in place. Controllers still not available. Overall, for the price I don't recommend, hope Samsung will take these flaws and fix them, at the moment, quest 3 is better, especially for the price.

Hey there NickVR, Thank you for your sincere feedback on the Galaxy XR. It’s clear you have extensive VR experience and emphasize design, immersion, and visual quality. Your praise for the colors, clarity, and passthrough performance means a lot. These were key priorities during development. The open, lightweight strap design was made for more natural comfort during extended use, and many users appreciate the lightweight build combined with high-resolution visuals and outdoor passthrough clarity. We're glad you noticed the improvements in blacks and color depth. Display technology really is a highlight of the Galaxy XR. Thanks again for sharing your insights. The Galaxy XR is fast, fluid, feature-rich and comfortable to wear. The display is outstanding, and I really like the fact that it can be worn tethered or untethered to a power source. I have yet to see the limits of the battery-life for the Galaxy XR. I am able to do everything that I can do with my phone, tablet, desktop, and tv in one place. The interface allows for a great amount of flexibility in how I arrange my workflow, communication and/or entertainment. This is a killer product at a reasonable price compared to the competition. Although, I was initially hesitant to pull the trigger to buy at the price point, the features, comfort and future upside of this headset have wiped away all potential for regret. Good Job Samsung/Google!!!

Wonderful product, This is my first experience with AR, and it is great. Easy to learn and responsive. I like that I can have multiple apps open all around me. The Maps app is super-cool. I'm able to get into an immersive street view with a 360 view as I turn my head. Videos are pretty clear and more fun to watch. I find I can wear the Galaxy XR for about 90 min before I need a break. I have lots more to try out (like connecting with my Book 5 and using a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse); but so far, this has been an amazing device at a very good price for the tech you get.

As someone who reviews countless slide decks, viuals and other pieces of media, this is a fantastic way to prepare for presentations while being able to speak confidently without having to stare at a laptop screen. Sure it may look a bit goofy to have a headset on while giving a presentation. But to me, this is a proof of concept, and I'm excited for what the future of Android XR holds.

I have to admit, I'm loving the things I can do with my Galaxy XR; and I'm confident that there are future resolutions to the things I can't do with it. Pros: The 4K resolution is outstanding! Some of the 8K 180VR stuff on YouTube is stunning. Eye Tracking is spot on (if you calibrated correctly). Its almost mind-reading. That said, I have turn mine off temporally, due my lack of focus because I want to do so much at the same time. Once the dust settles a bit, and I'm not as excited, I'll turn it back on. Productivity is also great. I wanted a VR that I can use at work. So far, I can do about 85% of my job solely within the XR Headset. Most of our apps are cloud-base, so multiple Chrome or Firefox windows does the trick. I can even have Slack and Teams up as well. Cons: There is a lack of documentation. While I watched all the Samsung videos, completed all the tutorials, and read the User Manual, there were still things left unsaid that I had to find out on my own. Something as simple as how to turn the unit off the proper way. Now I could have missed some thing due to be excited to start, but there really isn't any documentation on all the basics and second-tiered uses. This resulted in me having to factory default my headset and start over due to flashing bars. Maybe I didn't have to take such drastic measures, but there isn't any good documentation that helps with troubleshooting Consistency with connectivity is another issue. I have yet to be able to receive (answer) a phone call with my Headset. The XR app on my Galaxy Z Flip 5 says its connected (shows battery for headset and controllers), but my Headset says its not connected (but is paired). I have once made a duo call and then nothing. I'm sure it will work eventually, but the lack of documentation isn't helping Mic quality is in consistent. When on my Duo call, or when I join Google Meets, I'm told the audio starts out fine the all of a sudden get garbled or very soft. I'm hoping this is just a software fix and not hardware. The number one thing that most people are talking about is the fact that the only native PC link is for Galaxy Notebooks only. Which I promise most people in the US don't have. While you may be able to by 3rd party apps to connect to your Windows PC, I would expect a native solution for the price of admission. Again, the hardware is more than capable, just got to tweak the Software/UI to make it happen. I love my Galaxy XR headset and look forward to the ongoing improvements to come!

As of today, I give the Galaxy XR a 4/5. As the software matures and we start seeing third-party accessories to improve comfort, this device will be the best VR headset out there, period. I believe we need to give Samsung and Android a chance to improve things here. Meta headsets also struggled in the beginning of this journey, and they've learned and are now great at it. The biggest issues right now with Samsung Galaxy are with software performance. Having the experience of using many VR headsets that came before this, I believe if Samsung cares about this device and continues to support and refine the software—things like eye tracking, hand tracking, app support (addressing lags and lack of productivity apps), and a better ecosystem that takes into consideration Windows in general—this headset is wonderful. Give the company a chance; Samsung did an outstanding job based on the experience so far. Great headset, and when things get better with the software, this device is a 5, coming from a person who uses a Vision Pro and Meta Quest 3 every day. I just want to say thanks for this collaboration and for what they've delivered so far. Keep improving the software and the apps library for XR.

Hi there Ak25, Thank you for sharing your thoughts on the Galaxy XR. It offers immersive experiences from augmented to virtual reality, with about 7.1 million pixels per eye for realistic visuals. If you see visual differences, try adjusting the lens spacing and lighting—small changes can have a big impact. The battery lasts up to 2.5 hours, and you can attach the portable battery pack, which fits easily in your pocket or bag. The headset features dual 3D depth-sensing and high-definition passthrough cameras to optimize detail, brightness, and color in mixed-reality mode. If images look grainy or dull, ensure you’re in a well-lit environment and that your firmware is up to date—updates improve camera clarity and low-light performance. Your feedback is essential for us to enhance the Galaxy XR experience. We appreciate your detailed input! Thank you for being part of our journey at Samsung. I absolutely loved the Galaxy XR! In my experience, it’s way better than the Vision Pro in many ways. The hardware feels premium and comfortable for long sessions, and the display quality is stunning—colors, brightness, and clarity are all on point. Performance-wise, everything is smooth and responsive when using most apps and games. The gesture controls are intuitive, and the tracking is very accurate, which really boosts the immersive feel. Battery life is also impressive and lasts longer than I expected for everyday mixed reality use.

The Samsung Galaxy XR is a surprisingly lightweight and comfortable extended reality headset that provides a fantastic, high-resolution display experience. The seamless integration of Google's Gemini AI, allowing for real-time contextual interactions, is a game-changer and makes the device feel incredibly smart and responsive. Plus, it offers a compelling entry point to premium spatial computing at a more accessible price point than some competitors.

The Samsung Galaxy XR is a triumph of design and technology, earning its title as a truly fabulous device and the new standard for mixed reality. Its sleek and relatively lightweight design, at around 545g, offers a notable comfort advantage over competitors. The visual experience is nothing short of spectacular, driven by dual Micro-OLED displays that deliver a combined 27 million pixels at an ultra-sharp 3,552 x 3,840-pixel resolution per eye, supporting immersive 8K content. Running on the powerful Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 and Google's Android XR, the headset's standout feature is the deep integration of Gemini AI, which provides intelligent, contextual assistance right within your field of view. While the base 256GB storage is good, the sheer volume of high-resolution XR content makes a compelling case for adding a 512GB or 1TB internal storage variant and enabling high-speed external USB-C SSD support for a truly versatile, future-proof, and media-intensive experience. Eventually, I am incredibly grateful to see the progress in the tech industry by Samsung. Furthermore, This device is a testament to the exciting progress in the tech industry, and I'm genuinely thrilled to be among the first to explore the future of mixed reality and share this experience with the community.
